Lambda sensor

The lambda sensor is an important sensor in the exhaust system of modern vehicles and measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gas. Based on these values, the engine control unit can optimally regulate the air-fuel mixture, thus ensuring efficient combustion in the engine.

The lambda sensor is located in the exhaust system, usually before and after the catalytic converter. The upstream sensor measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gas and helps the engine control unit to precisely adjust the air-fuel mixture. A second sensor downstream of the catalytic converter additionally monitors the efficiency of the exhaust gas purification system.

Lambda sensors use special ceramic sensor elements that deliver precise readings even at high temperatures. Modern sensors often have integrated heating systems so they reach their operating temperature shortly after the engine starts.
