The reversing light switch is an electrical switch in the vehicle that activates the reversing lights as soon as reverse gear is engaged. It ensures that other road users can see that the vehicle is reversing and also improves rear visibility in the dark.

The switch is usually mounted directly on the gearbox. When the driver engages reverse gear, the switch is mechanically activated and closes an electrical circuit. This automatically switches on the reversing lights.
